Our campaign psychiatrist, Dr. Nzinga Harrison, started a new movement to remove the stigma associated with mental fitness and it’s called #metoo! As she stated in one of her live Q&A #AskAPsychiatrist sessions on suicide, when a person is experiencing anxiety or depression, their brain convinces them that they’ve been kicked out of the pack. It is all of our jobs to invite them back into the pack by providing a nonjudgmental listening ear and just wrapping our arms around them and letting them know they are not alone. It’s so easy to retreat to isolation island when we find ourselves in a position that we feel stuck in. But, simply hearing “hey, I’ve been where you are, too” can really help. So, if you or a loved one has experienced anxiety or depression, will you do us a favor and go to Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc. and simply hashtag #metoo.  It will help everyone know that they are not alone like their brain is telling them. Let’s get people off isolation island and invite them back into the pack.
