I recently read an article on Psychology Today’s website about the benefits of yoga. It stated that Harvard Medical School did research on the many benefits of daily yoga practice, which include the improvement of strength, flexibility, breathing, enhanced mental focus and sleep. This study indicates that yoga can help improve sleep of those who suffer from chronic insomnia. Not only does yoga improve sleep quality, it can improve the quantity of sleep as well.

In this study, researchers provided their subjects with basic yoga training and then asked them to maintain this daily yoga practice for eight weeks. After the participants kept sleep diaries, before and after the study, they found improvements of several aspects of sleep, including quantity and quality.

If you’re having trouble sleeping, before taking a pill try a lifestyle change like daily yoga. It just might be effective long-term.
